In December of 2011, Markus “Notch” Persson took part in a 48-hour game creation competition, in which contestants are to make a video game based around a specific theme, all within two days time.

The product of his entirely live streamed efforts is now entitled MiniTale, according to the official twitter of Notch himself. Prior to the switch, the game went under the condename MiniCraft, similar to another game from Notch that no one really played.

You can check out more information on MiniTale later at one of its two websites, here or here.

According to a post on RockPaperShotgun, Minecraft’s daddy, Markus “Notch” Persson, spent 48 hours over the weekend making a new browser-based game. It involves mining for resources, chopping down trees, crafting new items, and killing monsters, and it’s called, uh, Minicraft. So…yeah. Not really breaking new ground here. But while the game is mining (BOING) some pretty familiar territory, there are a couple important differences, as the post rightly points out. For one, there’s a Zelda-type, top-down view, and victory is achieved when you hunt down the world’s big boss and kill him. While Minecraft emphasizes the idea of a persistent, ever grow-able world, Minicraft boils its bigger brother’s essence down into a more Game Boy friendly version—and you can play the thing for free in your damn web browser! The game was made as a part of the Ludum Dare game-making initiative, with this installment’s theme being “Alone.” You may remember the last game Notch made for a Ludum dare, called Prelude of the Chambered, also shared some elements in common with Minecraft (stick with what you know, I guess), but that game was a first-person dungeon crawler. I wish I could make awesome games in 48 hours. In the last 48 hours, all I managed to do was watch a bunch of Star Trek: The Next Generation episodes. Sad panda. Via RockPaperShotgun
