  1. Do we even need to ask? Bioshock Infinite. Every category. Hands down.

  2. Bioshock will probably win, but I found Last of Us to be far more interesting as an experience, better paced and easier to relate to the characters and their struggle, as for competitive game, Battlefield 4 will probably take the cake, but I had more fun, so far anyways, with Dota 2, people bitch about CoD but BF4 so far is more of the same with better physics.

    • Last of Us was good, but the gameplay was too Uncharted for me. The plot, however, was very well executed. It could pull through, though. GoTY will be have stiff competition.

Also, CoD, BF4, and AC4 all should be removed from the list. Not even countinf multi, they just rush them out with little to no changes to formula. I’m peeved with AC4 especially. We all know it was a non-numbered sequel like Revelations or Brotherhood, but they just stuck “4” there to increase sales. Meh.

      End rant…

  3. Yeah it does resemble Uncharted here and there, but to me, they expanded and revised the cover/stealth system so much I didn’t even associated both games being made by the same team until you pointed out, also completely agree on AC4, while I enjoyed far more than AC3, dunno why, maybe I like pirates better than native americans, I can not look at that game without thinking it’s an expansion pack for AC3.

Anyways, I just noticed that Beyond wasn’t nominated for any category, which is a shame, it would be a solid competitor for both visuals and VA.

  4. Last of Us was so overrated, the game play was really boring in my opinion, almost so much that it wasn’t worth playing. It had a good story, and really was the only reason worth playing to me. Really hoping that Bioshock pulls through for GOTY.

  5. I vote for Doom 2.

  6. Strangely enough I don’t feel very strongly about any of the nominees this year, unlike years before. Never played the Last of us and I preferred the original Bioshock to Infinite in almost all respects. Idk

    • Dude, I know what you mean. I remember those past years when I would actually scream when E3 would unleash a torrent of wonderful games. Nowadays, it’s just a lot of what we all already expect: Assassin’s Creed, Cod, Battlefield, generic sports/racing games, etc… It’s the occasional gems like GTA and Bioshock that keeps my faith in the industry.

  7. The last of us does not deserve game of the year, it had a banal plot with mundane themes and was told extremely well; it appears more sophisticated than it really is. I’m glad everyone enjoys it, but that’s kind of what I expected of it, it’s easily accessible with no real depth, art made for the plebeians. Which is fine, but it should not recieve a reward for best game of the year. Its better than a lot of games on the list, maybe another year it could have won, but I think bioshock infinite and, surprisingly, saints row, are lot more interesting and thought provoking, not because of what they said, but what they didn’t. They were more self aware, their humore had layers, their themes had complexity. What the last of us really excelled at was eloquence, not content.

    • Last of Us definitely deserves to be NOMINATED for GotY, but Bioshock Infinite deserves to WIN them. Infinite seriously kicked some ass in terms of story, gameplay, and art design. Booker and Elizabeth were some of the most well-rounded fictional characters ever made. This year really sucked in terms of worth while games. I’d say Infinite and GTAV pretty much saved the year. Still, by no means does this make Last of Us a bad game. It was good. Just not better than Infinite. Also, I’m p*ssed that they even put AC4 and Battlefield 4 in the GotY nominations. Those games were just rehashes of the 3rd installments of their respective franchises.

    • Oh please, if you gonna nitpick, all the same can be said about infinite, the game has a bizarre character development, the plot is consisted of cliches and macguffins and the game borrows so heavily from its series, I’m amazed Burial at Sea isn’t the main game.

The only reason I think infinite will win is because it was better successful in delivering what it hyped, no more and no less.

      • Infinite was shit? Seriously? Did you even play it? Or the other bioshocks? For the first time in a while, someone created something out of the box. It wasnt just another shooter or linear plotline. Irrational took a story involving time tavel, deluted politics, fatherhood, and so forth, and managed to deliver it all in an enviroment just as insanely interesting: Columbia. No, Irrational worked their asses off to make a good game. So to did the devs for Last of Us. But their game doesnt hold a candle to Infinite.

      • Just to clarify, I don’t think Bioshock Infinite is shit, nor do I said that, I just don’t agree with the praise given to it, and my previous comment was about Robert being nitpicky and pedantic about Last of Us when clearly Infinite has just as many flaws.

Also I don’t even think it’s fair to compare both games, it’s like comparing Star Wars to Star Trek just because both share a common plot element, my OP was just about how I wish Last of Us would win, something I think it won’t, simply because to me, it was a more satisfying game where the overall narrative of the game felt more right with the situation presented.

      • Oops. Sorry bra. I was referring to Antria’s comment (above yours). Either way, I don’t expect everyone on the planet to like Infinite. It’s still going to be a good game whether it gets GotY or not. :]

      • How is Bioshock infinite in any way “something out of the box. It wasnt just another shooter or linear plotline.”. It is exactly completely 100% inside the box, safe, 100% linear and a horrible plotline with so many loopholes. It was told very well and it brought people to think it was more than it actually is. It was pretty bad and it’s pushing the media backwards. Watch the video.

      • How is Infinite outside the box? Hmm, let’s see… Skyrail system, opening/closing tears during combat, enemy varieties ranging from cult members bursting into crows to giant Frankenstein Handymen, having an AI companion that is ACTUALlY useful during combat, a setting no other game developer ever dreamed of utilizing, a plot that throws the player back and forth through time and parallel universes, powers that can me mixed and matched for various scenarios of combat, two characters that actually seem compelling… Yeah, Irrational certainly went outside the box.

  8. I probably would have liked BioShock Infinite a lot more if Troy Baker wasn’t voicing Booker. I lost all respect for Troy after he was on the god awful Silent Hill HD collection and some of the things he said about the old voice actors. The HD collection is BLASPHEMY towards Silent Hill 2 and 3. Troy didn’t even put on a voice for BioShock, so he sounded like almost every other character he voiced for (His normal talking voice).

  9. I love Bioshock and the franchise as a whole but I didn’t actually find Elizabeth to be all that helpful during the game she always offered supplies to late, when i did need a supply like ammo she’d offer salts or just tell me that she didn’t have what i needed yet, she kept getting in my way when fighting enemies. I liked the story telling a lot but i agree that the gameplay was a little disappointing. I love the songbird figure that i got from pre order but I don’t feel that it was really worth the 160$ i paid for the whole collection.

  10. The last of us is the game of our generation not just game of the year. There is not a single game that felt remotely even remotely similar. The game play just felt so rough not in a bad way more like in the way were your always struggling to make it through these insane scenarios. And the story had a same struggling trend that made you feel just destroyed emotionally even more so if you took your time exploring the stages. The graphics were incredible. And the setting was beautiful. AND on top of a truely perfect campaign mode the multi player was surprisingly awesome I put many many hours into the multiplayer It had an unfortunatly low amount of unlocks lea but I still played it for months after all the way until I got my ps4.

  11. I have not played bioshock or gta5. I did not enjoy gta4 so I highly doubt gta5 is worthy of game of the year. I would like to play bioshock but it is a good game and it is not anything that new from its previous. It’s the same reason I don’t think cod or bf or ac deserve goty they are just not special they are all good if not great games but All I’m saying is if you had the choice between gold and platinum which would you take. Gold is great to have but platinum is much more rare and much more valuable. The last of us is platinum hell it is diamond you can not beat it.

  12. Disappointed Beyond Two Souls didn’t get a mention for art, even story wise it was imo at least better than Injustice. Yeh Last of Us for GOTY for sure. While bioshock and GTA5 were fun and solid games definitely worthy nominees, no game for a long time has played my emotions like Last of Us did.

    • Definitely, Beyond had amazing voice acting and art style, tho I admit I don’t think it would had won a GOTY in any category, it sure deserved to be nominated.

  13. In my opinion I think The Last of Us will win. Why?It had a great story and was fun to play for me. I would want Bioshock to win too but…the 2011-2012 version of the game shown at E3 looked so much better than the version it is now but it still managed to have a great storyline even though the gunplay was lacking in my opinion.

  14. I personally think that Mario kart should be in there hands down winner

  15. Battlefield 4 for me.

  16. I was really dissapointed that the Mass Effect 3: Citadel DLC wasn’t even nominated. It is easily the best expansion I have played to date.

  17. The last of us GOTY! Beautiful of course, naughty dog made it duh. Voice acting was good, great story. All around great game. Why not name it GOTY?

  18. Having completed all 3 of GTA 5, BioShock infinite and the last of us, personally my favourite of them all was the last of us. Both GTA 5 and and BioShock were in some ways more fun to play, but personally I thought that the last of us just had by far the best story, and that the gameplay actually really complemented the plot, rather than just being a way to keep the player interested between cutscenes like I felt it was in BioShock.

  19. Last of Us should clean up imo. Bioshock was excellent but doesn’t stand a chance against Last of Us… most of these people saying otherwise likely didn’t even play it.

  20. I gotta say, for game of the year, either Battlefield 4 or GTA 5. Last of Us was damn good as well. I’m seeing a lot of hate for Battlefield 4. Why so? It was the game I had and continue to have the most fun with. I love GTA 5 to but I haven’t had enough time with it I guess. Battlefield 4 for me!

    • There is no hate for BF4, simply no love, the game brought nothing new to the genre, destructible environment is no reason to say it’s the best game evur!, hell, Black had it a decade ago on the PS2.

  21. Battleblock theater is going to win game of the year hands down

  22. MY VOTE BF4 all Categories

  23. my vote Grand Theft Auto 5

  24. Bioshock Infinite was good and the story was pretty good but I have to say The Last of Us is way more complete as a package (multiplayer) and the story, acting, visual detail is just fantastic! I think TLoU deserves to clean up with those awards… it truly is one of the best games I’ve ever played. Ni No Kuni, XCOM and ShadowRun Returns are also on my list.

  25. Glorious Papers Please master race.
