DriveClub Delay Confirmed by Sony
The news that one of Sony’s PlayStation 4 launch exclusives, DriveClub, might be delayed was met with some pretty sad faces by the many folks who’d preordered Sony’s forthcoming next-gen console. As of this morning, sadly, that delay has been officially confirmed by Sony Worldwide President Shuhei Yoshida.
Writing on the PlayStation Blog, Yoshida explains that the game just needs more development time:
“SCE Worldwide Studios and the team at Evolution Studios have made the difficult decision to delay the release of DriveClub and DriveClub PlayStation Plus Edition until early 2014. DriveClub will be a truly innovative, socially connected racing game, but the team requires more time in order to deliver on their vision—and I’m fully confident the game will surpass your expectations.”
Because DriveClub had a free-to-play component for PlayStation Plus subscribers, Sony’s looking to fill that spot with another title for subscribers’ Instant Game Collections. According to the post, it’ll be Contrast, a really cool platformer I got to play at PAX this past summer. But as great as that game looked like it was going to be, it’s definitely not a high definition, hyper-realistic racing game.
Additionally, Yoshida writes that subscribers will have the chance to enjoy a free play weekend of Killzone Shadow Fall’s multiplayer from December 28 to December 29. That’s pretty good! I guess!
All in all, it’s disappointing for those of us going the PS4 route next month. Even still, I wasn’t planning on getting DriveClub, personally. I think I’ll survive until these games launch in 2014. What say you? What are your next-gen plans?
