Double Fine Announces SpaceBase Alpha
So Double Fine Productions just announced SpaceBase DF-9, a space-station making strategy game that looks amazing. Currently in Alpha, you can throw in $25 to get yourself a Steam code to give the game a try while it’s being built. Take a look at the trailer above.
Man…this looks a lot like Star Command from Warballoon…like, a lot a lot. That game was pretty good, though it didn’t quite live up to its initial Kickstarter promise. I know that game’s being developed for PC right now, so I have my hopes that it’ll come into its own as development progresses.
As for SpaceBase DF-9, this looks to follow in the same mold, though maybe more along the lines of city management…more SimCity than Star Trek. Whether or not that shift in emphasis—keeping your citizens happy rather than simply keeping them alive and exploring the galaxy—will result in a better game remains to be seen. While I’m rarely in the mood to pay for a game that isn’t done, that’s just how things go these days. And helping a cool looking title that pushes all my damn buttons get funded and awesome is probably the thing that I want to do the most.
If I had $25 to spare today, I’d sign up for Alpha access right now. As soon as I get some extra cash, I think you will all know where I’ll be spending my free time. Dang, guys.
Well? Does this look as cool to you as it does to me? Anyone out there going to sign up?
