While we’re still about a month away from getting Out of the Shadows, the digitally published TMNT game from developer Red Fly, the next game in Activision’s turtle-themed series has been officially announced.
Called simply Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the title is due out this October, and only for three platforms: Xbox 360, Wii, and 3DS. The game seems to be very closely based on the current Nickelodeon TV show of the same name, and also looks like it takes its inspiration from the side-scrolling, isometric beat-em-ups from back in the day (specifically the classic Turtles in Time). The Wii and Xbox 360 versions will feature up to four player, local drop-in/drop-out cooperative play, though why the Xbox version wouldn’t also feature online co-op, I have no idea. The HD remake of Turtles in Time does…I can’t imagine why this game wouldn’t.
ANYWAY, while Out of the Shadows has me inexplicably excited, this one…doesn’t. Maybe because it’s very much like what we’ve seen before? And seems to offer less? And is only coming out for three platforms (one of which is all but abandoned)? When a bunch of new, next-gen platforms will be coming out? Look, I don’t know what this game will be like, but it seems conspicuous that it’s not even coming out on the PS3 or Vita, or even the Wii U. Does Activision have a turkey on its hands?
I have no idea. In the end, our lives are only enriched by having more turtle-based video games to enjoy. So I’ll keep my eyes peeled on this one, so you won’t have to.
