One of the biggest hits from last year was Ubisoft’s Far Cry 3. And one of the biggest hits from this year (so far) was the insane, ‘80s-action-movie fever dream Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. Without question, it’s one of the publisher’s biggest franchises, and that fact isn’t lost on the company’s management at all.
Ubisoft’s senior VP of marketing and sales, Tony Key, explained what fans can expect to GameSpot in a post published last week:
“We’re totally psyched from [Far Cry 3]. It’s a great brand, and now it’s got the recognition it deserves, so we’re clearly going to make another one: more on that soon.”
That’s about it as far as official announcements are concerned. When would a sequel come out? I don’t know. But chances are good it would probably be in time for the holiday season of 2014, considering that this holiday season already has a brand new Assassin’s Creed ready to drop. That’s not to say that Ubisoft couldn’t release a new Far Cry and Assassin’s Creed title in the same time period, but considering that nothing’s been announced for the franchise yet points to at least another year until the next game is unveiled.
That said, I wouldn’t be surprised if another spin off like Blood Dragon made its way to digital or regular store shelves later this year. Blood Dragon managed to do really well despite (or perhaps because of) being totally bonkers and weird, so I think it stands to reason that Ubisoft might want to try and capitalize on those good feelings again before 2013 is up.
What do you think? What would you want to see in Far Cry 4?
