Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb has confirmed that the next Xbox will be revealed on May 21, with a live broadcast from the Xbox campus in Redmond, Washington. Then, Microsoft will also be showing off its “full lineup of blockbuster games” at E3 19 days later. So, a rumor no longer!
Ever since Sony unveiled their PlayStation 4 at a hastily announced event in February, speculation about Microsoft’s own plans to reveal its next-gen system have been circulating steadily. Today, GameInformer reports that the Xbox-maker will reveal its own PS4 rival at an event based in Redmond, Washington on May 21.
Apparently Microsoft is “about to send out invitations for an unveiling event for the next Xbox,” and that it’ll be streamed on Xbox.com, Spike TV, and XBLA, probably through the “Live Event Viewer” app. This new date jibes with earlier reports that Microsoft’s event would be postponed from April to May, though through all of this, Microsoft has said exactly NOTHING, so take from that what you will.
If nothing else, even if this reveal event doesn’t happen next month, don’t be surprised to hear about the new console in June at E3. One way or another, Microsoft’s going to put its cards on the table soon.
