Deep Silver announced today that they’ve got a new IP on the way in the form of Ride to Hell. The press release says that there are going to be three games right off the bat: Ride to Hell: Retribution for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC; the downloadable Ride to Hell: Route 666 for PSN, XBLA, and Steam; and mobile game Ride to Hell: Beatdown, described as “a rock’n’roll brawler.”
We’ve got a trailer for Retribution up top. What is it? Well, from what I can glean from the video, it’s about a violent guy named Jake Conway being violent on other violent people, and also there’s boobs and motorcycles. So, you know, everything that will get people to buy it and get Fox News and your parents and girlfriend all angry all at the same time. Essentially, it’s a hit already.
Eutechnyx-developed Retribution’s scheduled for release on June 25, while Black Forest Games’ Route 666 has an unspecific June release date. As to Beatdown, no release date on that one yet, but don’t be surprised if it’s sometime this summer as well. As it turns out, UK-based Eutechnyx has actually been around in one form or another since 1987, if Wikipedia’s dates are to be believed. But from what I can see of the games the company’s put out, I’m hard pressed to remember really any of them. It seems like there are predominantly racing games on the resume, so I’m wondering where Ride to Hell will fit in (though, I’m sure there will be racing involved, but with motorcycles).
What do you think? I’m always a fan of new IPs, though I feel like we’ve seen all this kind of stuff before (Saints Row crossed with Grand Theft Auto crossed with BMX XXX). That said, you can’t deny that the sheer audacity and over-the-top antics of the trailer aren’t pretty entertaining.
