EA Releases Free Game List for Disgruntled SimCity Players

simcity free game

As EA and Maxis have been working out the server issues that have plagued SimCity since its launch a couple weeks ago, the companies promised a free Origin download as a reward for their patience. Today, they published a press release to explain what the deal is (along with a FAQ on their website), and what games are available as part of the promotion.

“Our SimCity Mayors are incredibly important to the team at Maxis,” says the press release. “We sincerely apologize for the difficulties at launch and hope to make it up to you with a free PC game download from Origin.”

Interestingly, anyone who registers a copy of SimCity by March 26 will have access to the free game—so, while this rewards frustrated fans who’ve had to endure the game’s problems, it also acts as a reward to spur more SimCity sales in the face of the PR nightmare the game’s launch has become. Very clever, EA…

The redemption portal to get the free games will go live on March 22, and you’ll have until March 30 to get your game. In the meantime, you can think about what you want by scoping out the list right here:

  • Battlefield 3 (Standard Edition)
  • Bejeweled 3
  • Dead Space 3 (Standard Edition)
  • Mass Effect 3 (Standard Edition)
  • Medal of Honor Warfighter (Standard Edition)
  • Need For Speed Most Wanted (Standard Edition)
  • Plants vs. Zombies
  • SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition

So, as you can see, Dead Space 3 is up there…which came out, like, last month. I didn’t get it, but I know I should…and, of course, despite the server problems, I’ve heard that SimCity’s actually pretty rad. So…yeah. I think this is going to happen for me. Not a bad deal at all.

What do you think? Does this deal make you feel a bit better about getting the SimCity shaft for a couple weeks?

  1. Bullcrap! I bought the game before the 18th in the hopes of being able to get Crysis 3! I know it came out like, not long ago but…C’mon!

    • I know how you fell, i bought SimCity with the hopes of using that 20$ coupon on Crysis 3 but it didn’t work, and now well…..this. God damn it EA!! If anything NFS Most Wanted would be awesome, but the PC port is shit and it’s plagued with performance issues.

      • Dude come one they are giving you free games for there fuck up….at least they fix it and even give you a free game! You gotta be greedy as hell to not be somewhat happy about this.

      • Seriously EA is doing this just to sell more copies of SimCity I know at least 3 people and heard from many more who are going to buy it because they want Dead Space 3. If EA was really sorry they’d offer the free games to the people who actually went through the f*** up that happened launch day, not to everyone who purchases from now to the 25th. Open your eyes and see what EA is doing.

  2. Sigh, oh lookie there is Sim City 4. That game that has no always-online DRM. Surely that will satisfy our minority of disgruntled fans whom have the silly desire to play Sim City in a terrifying and lonely offline manner without been interrupted by the true social needs of the real world or be granted the honor of playing a simulation game running concurrent simulations such as cross region air pollution and super realistic nonsensical road congestion.

  3. Sure why not, the deadline of the free games come on the day of the international release, oh EA you so sly.

  4. Totally called SimCity 4. Totally.

Still. A crap game + another crappy game (save for SC4) isnt really worth it. Not at all.

  5. Wtf so I fucking downloaded MOH Warfighter (EU) and no fucking server online just one fucking server! The game is unclear, you can not join your friends in a fucking squad.

Medel of Honor is the worst fucking game out there! FUCK! no wonder EA deleted the game for the future list of published games.
