Rumors began to swirl about a new Assassin’s Creed game for the PlayStation Vita a few weeks ago, coinciding with Ubisoft’s reveal of pirate-themed Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. Today, though, it seems as though evidence of a new AC game for the handheld is mounting.
A post on Eurogamer reports that Spanish retailer XtraLife.es had a listing for a Vita game called Assassin’s Creed Phoenix Rising, slated for an October 10 release And after getting a “no comment” from Ubisoft about a game with such a name, the listing was removed. Hmm!
That’s not all. About a week ago, the above image was leaked, while the one below was posted on AllGamesBeta today. Hmm again!
As you can see, both images feature iconography from the Assassin’s Creed franchise, including the logos of evil corporation Abstergo as well as that of the Erudito Collective. If nothing else, these images seem to be pretty legit based on how they look. Then again, in the world of video games and “leaks,” you never can tell for sure.
Personally, I think this is the real deal. Don’t be surprised if this game is officially announced this summer at E3, much the same way last year’s Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation was unveiled at the 2012 expo. While the home console version of ACIII left me kind of cold, I was pretty pleased with the handheld version when I reviewed it last year. If nothing else, that game has me more interested in another handheld Assassin’s Creed game. Your thoughts?
