THQ to Auction Leftover Assets
Late yesterday, the entity that remains of nearly-dissolved publisher THQ announced that it would be auctioning off the rest of its unsold assets on the first of April. This offers some hope for fans of franchises that didn’t get snapped up during the first auction earlier this year, including properties like Darksiders.
The announcement offers up a list of six lots of intellectual properties that will be up for auction: Darksiders, Red Faction, Homeworld, MX, and two other gigantic lots full of other properties including Double Fine’s Costume Quest and Stacking as well as Destroy All Humans and even Nancy Drew.
When the first auction went down and Vigil Studios didn’t get bought, many believed the worst. Shortly afterward, many of the former employees of Vigil were hired by Crytek to form a new US-based branch of their company, but Vigil’s Darksiders franchise has yet to find a buyer. It’s conceivable that Crytek might grab it just to bring it “home.” Additionally, Platinum Games has expressed interest in buying the franchise, and now there’s a chance this could still happen.
As for the aforementioned Double Fine-made games, I’d be surprised if that developer stepped up to buy the lots that include their games…but it’s possible that some other company could buy those lots, from which Double Fine might buy them back. Who knows? Keep your eyes peeled to see where your favorite franchises end up.

April 1st? April Fools? I think THQ will just come out on that date saying “LOLOLOLOLO, we ticked all of you, we’re not bankrupt, we’re super rich. Here’s a new game that’s coming out, it’s GOTY”
I’d be happy if that were true. I like having lots of big publishers. It prevents a monopoly.
