Square Enix Trademarks Deus Ex: Human Defiance

A post on CVG from yesterday reports that on Tuesday Square Enix filed a trademark for something called Deus Ex: Human Defiance. As you may remember, 2011 saw the release of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, so it stands to reason that Human Defiance is likely a sequel. It wouldn’t be a DLC pack or anything since Human Revolution came out so long ago.

As the post points out, CBS Films is working on a movie, and unless the new trademark is for a web-series, comic book, or something that’s not a game, well, it’s probably a new game. A post on Joystiq ups the ante, noting that Square Enix-owned Eidos Montreal (the developer of Human Revolution) has been working on an unannounced project for a while now. So…yeah. It’s probably a new game.

The Joystiq post also offers up a not-at-all-informative quote from the publisher:

“Square Enix does not comment on rumor and speculation.”

So there’s that.

Get ready for Human Defiance! And, forgive me for some unwarranted speculation, but if this is the real thing, it’ll probably come out for the next generation of consoles.

By the title, it would probably be a direct sequel to HR, so it would be a sequel… to a prequel? well, regardless, I’m excited, I loved HR, even if it had very little to do with Deus Ex previous installments.

I think you mean an interquel, the one in between, here’s hope to another great Deus EX, hopefully the conspiracies will be as complex as 1 and 2
