Hotline Miami Coming to PS3 and Vita
One of the breakout hits from the indie development scene was Dennaton Games’ Hotline Miami, a title that shocked people both in its depiction of violence and its unexpectedly high quality. Sony knows a good thing when they see it, apparently, and the game will be appearing on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita consoles this spring, according to a press release published today. Even better: Hotline Miami will be a Cross-Buy title, which means that buying the game on either console allows you to play it on both. That’s pretty fantastic.
Well, it’s fantastic for us gamers, at least. The game’s publisher, Devolver Digital, isn’t quite as thrilled. Said CFO Ford Parker:
“The Devolver Digital team is hyped to see Hotline Miami hit PS3 and PS Vita. However, this Cross-Buy thing might prohibit me from achieving my long-standing dream of wearing a gold plated PS Vita around my neck. Total bummer.”
Reports that Hotline Miami might be coming to the Vita first appeared shortly after its launch, so it’s nice to know that it’s coming to fruition. The press release reports that the game has sold over 300,000 copies since it was released in October, an impressive jump from the 130,000 copies that were reported back in December, and not accounting for all the rampant piracy that PC games necessarily suffer. The game is almost undoubtedly going to succeed all over again on Sony’s platforms, so much so that the planned sequel will get a nice financial boost.
