By now, we all know that Gearbox’s Aliens: Colonial Marines shooter is the first big critical disappointment of 2013. Amid the quest to figure out just what went wrong, it seems as though footage from a canceled role playing game from Obsidian based on the Aliens franchise has surfaced online.
According to a post on Eurogamer, Sega had commissioned Obsidian to create an RPG which was tentatively called Aliens: Crucible. A Joystiq post from way back in 2010 explains that the game would’ve offered turn-based combat and taken place from the perspective of a Colonial Marine. The older post quotes Obsidian’s Feargus Urquhart, who said that the game seemed more or less ready to ship when Sega canned it back in 2006:
“Oh, if you had come in and played any of the last builds we were working on, you would have said it was a finished game. That’s how close we were. It looked and felt like it was ready to ship.”
Bonk. This sounds pretty damn cool, and the animation looks pretty rad too. I’m sure that the game would still manage to disappoint in one way or another, but considering how shoddy Sega’s other Aliens game turned out to be, it would’ve been nice to at least have had a shot to play this one. Alas and alack.

How about modding the shit outta Xcom?
Aliens, 40k, Syndicate, etc
Just about any franchise or idea could be fitted to that game style.
Fox doesn’t like mods
that being said rebellion should have been given aliens colonial marines since its obvious with avp 2010 that they knew what they were doing, even though that game did get a bad rap.
