NCSoft Signs Extended License for Unreal Engine 4

Though the MMO developer hasn’t announced any projects under the game-making platform, NCSoft announced that they have licensed Unreal Engine 4 for development of future games.

Why should you care? Because this is probably the first we’re seeing of what the next era will be in video games. Free-to-play is blowing up, and in case you haven’t noticed, $60 retail games aren’t so much. I’m guessing that the next era of video games will transition into F2P with high production values, and that’s exactly the sort of thing I expect to see in a few years’ time from NCSoft.

I just hope some of them still have a strong single-player aspect. I guess games like Path of Exile prove you can still provide an awesome single player type experience under F2P auspices.
