Take-Two Still Working on XCOM Shooter that Everyone Forgot About
Back when I wrote the All Your History based on XCOM, I dove deep into where the series went over the years, including the long-in-development first-person shooter coming from Take-Two and 2K Marin. While that game was announced way back in 2010, it’s yet to be released. Meanwhile, late-last year Take-Two released Firaxis’s XCOM: Enemy Unknown, a remake of the turn-based strategy original that started the franchise.
Enemy Unknown has earned some great scores and has been nominated for tons of awards…leaving most folks to forget that there was that other XCOM game in the first place. Well, a post on CVG today reports that 2K Marin is still hard at work on the title, and that it’s slated for sometime in the 2014 fiscal year, which runs between April 1, 2013 and March 31, 2014.
Will the game be a first person shooter still? Or will it be a squad-based, third-person shooter, as was reported by Kotaku back in October? And now that we know how awesome the world of turn-based strategy alien-killing can be, does anyone still actually want this game?
I’m interested, I’ll admit that much—but aside from that, I’m feeling like I’d be more interested in sequels to Firaxis’s remake. Not everything has to be a shooter, right?

Enemy Unknown is definitely cool, but I am actually interested in this one because of the alien designs and the 1960s setting. Although, since the art style is so unique, I would suggest that maybe THQ come up with an original name, as opposed to XCOM.
Sadly, THQ is no more :(
Derp. I feel so stupid. I meant 2K Marin.

Yet, I never liked Xcom, so I might end up liking this one just because it’s FPS.
Destroy all Humans anyone?
Never got into XCOM as it was WAY before my time, but the new shooter has me legitimately interested. If I could get to experience the XCOM universe through this game, I would be more than pleased.
