With Saints Row and Volition having been scooped up by Koch Media late last month, there have been questions as to when the next game in the series might appear. According to a post on GamesIndustry from yesterday, Koch’s CEO Klemens Kundratitz says that Saints Row 4 is on track to appear sometime this year. Here’s what the post says about it:
“Kundratitz says that he has ‘no doubt’ that Metro: Last Light and the next Saints Row game will both launch this year, just as THQ had planned.”
Is that written in stone? No. No it’s not. It’s pretty vague, actually. But, barring any unforeseen delays or problems, if Saints Row 4 was on track for a 2013 release, I don’t see too many reasons why that should change now.
The last news of layoffs hitting Volition, the studio behind the Saints Row franchise was back in 2011. Given the change in ownership, Koch certainly had the opportunity to cut on whatever wasteful or inefficient structure it may not have liked. That we haven’t heard anything coming close to folks being let go from Volition signals that all systems are still go.
So: Saints Row 4 this year. Speculation about how many dildo bats will be in it begin…now.
