The Showdown Effect Now Available for Pre-Order, Beta Kicks Off Today

The Showdown Effect, a dark, side-scrolling sewing-together of Super Smash Bros. and Shadow Complex, is now available for pre-order from Paradox Interactive and Arrowhead Game Studios. In fact, those who pre-order starting today, January 31, will gain instant access to the ongoing beta, which also starts today.

Not including the aforementioned beta, your pre-order of the game will include a new weapon skin: the Fusion Saber of Light. There’s also the Digital Deluxe Edition for the hardest of the hard…core, which includes the previously mentioned pre-order bonuses, two weapon skins, two bonus outfits including a robe from Magicka, and a free copy of Magicka itself to top it all off.

For more information on the beta, head on over to the game’s official website. If you want to skip past all the jibber-jabber and slap some money down for the game, you can do that right over… here.

I had the opportunity to spend a good hour with the game at PAX last year, and had a really fun time with it. It’s hard to describe how a game is both dark and colorful, both twitchy and methodic, and layered yet 2D, but a few YouTube clips of the game should give you an idea.

Oh, look! Here’s one now!
