Confession time: I know nothing about Xenoblade, other than the fact that it exists. Developed by Japanese studio Monolith Soft (not to be confused with Monolith Productions, the American studio owned by WB Interactive), Xenoblade was a Wii game that came out in Japan, and was finally localized for North American audiences after American nerds pushed and pushed as a part of “Operation Rainfall” back in 2011.

This morning’s Nintendo Direct video shows off a brand new game coming from Monolith Soft for the Wii U—one that looks a lot like Capcom’s Monster Hunter (to me, anyway) but with guns and robots and whatnot. No title was given, but after all the video was over, we got a big fat “X” at the end.

So is this Xenoblade U? Or something brand new? It should be pointed out that the 3DS game mash-up Project X Zone is also developed by Monolith Soft, and though it does feature a couple characters from Xenosaga, it has no otherwise connection with the Xeno games. And it’s got an “X” there in the title too. Using detective work, I suspect that I have no idea what this game is.

But shit. It looks cool as hell, doesn’t it? Check out the screens:

I’m not much into JRP’s but fighting Dragons with giant robots sounds pretty frigging sweat!

Wii U users, will be in The ProjectXZone, with 3DS. Animation makes the player feel, like there in that environment…

Definately a Xenoblade successor. It may superficially resemble monster hunter, what with big monsters and with a multiplayer chatbox and nametags, but the games are complete opposites. Monster hunter may look big and open, but it takes place in tiny arenas with just big pretty backgrounds, seperated by loading screens every couple hundred feet. Nothing in that X trailer is a background, its all explorable, without a loading screen to be seen. The farthest crazy landmark miles upon miles upon miles in the background that you can see, you can run, or fly your crazy transformer mech run all the way up to it, turn around and look at where you came from, no loading screen. In fact, if you pay attention to the trailer, you can see all the same landmarks at some extreme differences in distance. Skyrim gives you horse because the land is so vast it would take too long on foot. X gives you a crazy tronsforming flying supersonic motorcycle… Im feeling its too vast for horses. This is looking nuts.
