First Screenshots of Super Smash Bros. Wii U Coming at E3 2013
Nintendo has once again urged its Smash Bros.-hungry consumers to remain patient as the company continues development on the upcoming franchise entry for Wii U. According to Iwata in this morning’s presentation, it’s a substantial project for the company to undertake, but we’ll all see the fruits of their labor via the first-ever screenshots when they unfold before us at E3 2013.
“Smash Bros is a huge development undertaking and we need more time before it launches, Satoru Iwata said.
“Mr Sakurai told us that we have set the timing for the first screens at this year’s E3. Please wait for just a little longer.”
So far, all we know about this entry is that it’ll have some connectivity with the 3DS version of the game, is being developmentally assisted by Namco Bandai, has some association with Tekken, and has only the following whiteboard concept art to show for it.
Anticipation is the name of the game here, gentlemen and gentle-ladies. Onward we march to E3 2013, where our dreams will come true and our eyes will melt from our sockets as the game we’ve all been waiting for will be fully revealed… or it could be sub-par, poorly put together and slated for release in 2015 with Jigglypuff as the only playable character.
But hey, at least we have a new 3D Mario, a new Mario Kart, a new Yoshi game and an HD re-release of The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker to keep us pondering things not related to Smash Bros. for awhile!

I don’t like that Namco Bandai have anything to do with it, I want Smash Bros how I know and love it. I feel like we’re going to get something reminiscent of Tekken or Soul Calibur, fighting games I do not like the style of at all, with a bit of Nintendo flair on top.
I think you needn’t worry, the project is being supervised by the series’ creator, Masahiro Sakurai. In terms of non-native Smash Bros. folks, you have Yoshito Higuchi as director, who worked on Tales of Vesperia. Then you have Kenya Kobayshi, producing, his experience pertaining mostly to Ridge Racer. Finally there’s Tetsuya Akatsuka, known for work on Mobile Suit Gundam.
Sure, it’s got staff from Namco Bandai and the Tekken squad, but it’s being spearheaded by two extremely talented folks, one of which is the series’ creator. Plus, all of their names are Japanese, so you can’t NOT have faith, man.
I really hope this comes out on 3Ds as well.
Fortunately for you, me, and the hordes of other people that need a worthwhile game for the 3DS, Sakurai has mentioned quite a few times that he wants to release the Wii U version alongside 3DS version, or at least give them some level of compatibility.
Any form of Smash Bros. on the go gets a thumbs up from me.
Awesome. Now what would be even better is if it has the cross platform online, like PSASBR, and I could play online against my friend who has a wii u while I’m on my 3DS.
That. Would. Be. So. Fantastic.
Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U sounds amazing! Can’t wait!
