After the announcement of Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen last year, we’ve been shorthanded on details regarding the expansion and what it brings to the table. Finally, though, we have some solid details about what’s included in the game, and how owners of the original game will be rewarded kindly for their time and effort.

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen is both an expansion to the original Dragon’s Dogma and a standalone experience available on disc or through digital download. It includes the original game and all of its content, so you needn’t worry if you don’t already own it.

The new content is set in Bitterblack Isle, near the Gransys Mainland of the original game. It will have a new underground realm to discover, new enemies to fight, and treasure to uncover. There will be new level-3 skills to attain, weapons and armor to unlock, and new equipment/augmentations to take advantage of. Also, you’ll have greater character customization options, item appraisal solutions, and the option to have a Japanese voice over for the game if you’re into that sort of thing.

If you own the previous game, Dark Arisen supports the importing of character saves to continue building up your skills and attributes that you’ve already spent countless fortnights upgrading. Additionally, all owners of the previous game will immediately gain access to 100,000 Rift Crystals, unlimited Ferrystones, and the Gransys Armor Pack which includes six brand new character costumes.

If you want to start fresh with a new character, you can do that too.

The game is being made “even more satisfying” with the implementation of easier travel mechanics and “a more intuitive menu system,” and will even retrofit these settings based on your personal settings in the original game.

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen will be available for purchase via retail stores in North America for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 for $39.99. It’ll also be up for purchase for the same price on the PlayStation Network. The game launches across all of these platforms on April 23, 2013.

Also, tons of new screenshots. Enjoy.
