Square Enix Announces Final Fantasy All the Bravest for iOS

On Tuesday, there was a lot of speculation about what Square Enix might be teasing with their new site containing the URL, “ff_atb.” I said, “well, it’s got to have that “Active Time Battle” thing that’s so important to the Final Fantasy series—and I was right, but not quite in the way I thought.

Turns out that there’s a brand new game made just for mobile devices called Final Fantasy: All The Bravest, a combat-oriented RPG for iOS devices like the iPhone and iPad. It seems as though it’s going to be relatively light on the epic story elements found in more traditional Final Fantasy games, while it’ll have a heavy reliance on touch-enabled monster fighting using the aforementioned ATB system (which, HEY, has the same initials as “All the Bravest”). Here’s the official description of how combat will unfold:

“Every character possesses an ATB gauge that displays the time remaining until that character can execute an action. When the gauge is full, simply tap or drag your finger over the character to attack. Touch multiple characters in quick succession to experience exhilarating and fast-paced battle unlike anything you’ve ever played before!

Once every three hours, the Fever option will appear. Once activated, you will be able to attack without waiting for ATB gauges to refill as long as the chocobo-themed music is playing. Deal as much damage as you can before the battle fever ends!”

Oh, CHOCOBOS. They’re big bird things! It’s a Final Fantasy game, that’s for damn sure. It’s currently out for iOS devices for the low-low price of $3.99. I have an Android phone, so I can’t play. Sad-face.

Anyway, check out the official page, all full of its assets. And don’t forget to watch the trailer above. Anyone out there download it? What’s it like?

DON’T BUY!! I can’t believe SE!! This has got to be the most disgusting attempt to squeeze money out of the Final Fantasy franchise! I have to pay 2 f**king bucks when I die, or otherwise wait 2 hours to get back in the game! And the touch controls are a joke! I recall someone from SE saying how they were afraid they had harmed the Final Fantasy brand. THIS is an example of how they hurt the brand. Damn…
