WoW Players Raise $2.3 Million for Sandy Relief

Yesterday, Blizzard announced that World of Warcraft players managed to raise over $2.3 million toward disaster relief in the wake of Superstorm Sandy, which tore through the East Coast in late-October. The funds were collected in return for an in-game pet, the Cinder Kitten, which is a cute little cat that is made of fire. So, that’s nice.

One-hundred percent of the proceeds for each $10 “adoption” went right to the American Red Cross’s efforts for victims of Sandy. Even more impressive is the fact that the Cinder Kitten doesn’t seem to actually do anything except, you know, just sit around being both cute and on fire. So the $2.3 million was pretty much raised out of the goodness of gamers’ hearts! How delightful!

Not true. The kitten is also a battle pet, one of my strongest actually. That said, good on Blizzard for doing this.

“Give us some cash, and you get a flaming pussy!”

    Seconds later…

“2.3 million for Sandy relief! Thanks guys! Here’s your adorable little kitty!”

*Gamers around the world start smashing their monitors…*

The pet fiends on WOW are now quantifiable worst than the Hat Fiends on TF2.

Well, good news for charity then.
