Portal No Escape Director Helming Y the Last Man Movie

Remember the above video, “Portal: No Escape”? It’s a fan-made short-film by Dan Tractenberg—and the director’s just been put in charge of bringing the comic book series Y: The Last Man onto the big screen. According to a post on ComicsAlliance today, the project’s been in the works for over five years already with New Line Cinema, so it’s entirely likely that nothing will come of this. But if Tractenberg does wind up getting somewhere with the project, I have a good feeling it’ll at least be something new and interesting. After all, being new and interesting is how he managed to impress in the first place. And Y: The Last Man’s an awesome book…go check it out if you haven’t yet.

I have no doubt that his work on “No Escape” is what brought him to this gig, for however long he has it. Shortly after his short-film made waves on the internet, it was revealed that he’d spent years toiling away in obscurity on commercials and documentaries. After the Portal movie made such a splash, he suddenly found himself working on projects that interested him. So there you go: follow your dreams, kids! And if you’re having an unlucky time, go and make your own luck.

I want a Dana Scully cybernetic companion with rocket launchers for arms. Time to hit the drawing board.
