Gabe Newell Confirms Valve is Working on New Engine

A post on Eurogamer this morning reports that Valve’s head honcho, Mr. Gabe Newell, was visited by some folks from 4chan to celebrate the man’s 50th birthday, and during the visit, Newell confirmed that Valve was hard at work on a new game engine. There were hints back in August that a new engine was in the works, but this latest bit of news is the first official confirmation of such.

The exchange also centered around when the engine might be rolled out, with Newell saying, “We’ve been working on Valve’s new engine stuff for a while, we’re probably just waiting for a game to roll it out with.”

Apparently, Newell added that the game will likely be Ricochet 2, which apparently is code for Half-Life 3.

Also, can I ask a question? When turning 50, wouldn’t you rather have, like, a bunch of strippers wearing TF2 hats? Instead of a bunch of 4chan people? Nothing against 4chan, I’m just sayin’.

Anyway, how you like that? And what do you think of Gabe’s old-man beard that’s happening? The man is becoming mature.

  1. Gabe Newell, what a good sport he is.

  2. I can guarantee you that there will be no Source Engine 3!

  3. So we won’t have a HL 3, Left4Dead 3, or Portal 3 until third engine, right?
