Virus Spreading Through Xbox 360 Versions of Borderlands 2
A post on Eurogamer this morning reports that a virus is plaguing Xbox 360 versions of Gearbox’s Borderlands 2, wiping saves left and right. The post calls the problem the “Graveyard” Exploit, and traces its origins to gamers who use “hacked save files to access a Diablo 3-style hardcore mode left within the game’s code by developers.”
Apparently when gamers who have the hacked save play with non-hacked gamers, the latter’s save files get wiped. And the problem spreads as those gamers play with yet others. While Gearbox works on a patch to fix the issue, the company has instructed Borderlands 2 players to avoid joining games with strangers.
Said Community Manager Chris Faylor:
“Recently a few users have begun violating the Xbox Live Code of Conduct by using an external application to maliciously disrupt the experience and sabotage characters of legitimate Borderlands 2 players on Xbox 360. Fortunately it’s easy to avoid this scenario.
After extensive internal testing, an update to prevent this disruption has been submitted to Microsoft and will be released as soon as possible. Until then, concerned Xbox 360 players of Borderlands 2 should consider playing online with trusted individuals in non-public sessions. This does not affect players on PC or PlayStation 3.
We also advise that before ceasing play, users always select ‘Save and Quit’ from within the pause menu while their character is alive. If after the death of their character players find themselves at the main menu of Borderlands 2 instead of respawning in-game, be sure to immediately select ‘Continue’ to resume playing as that character.”
Freaky! This also isn’t the first save-wiping problem to affect Borderlands 2. Shortly after its release last month, a glitch was discovered that would wipe out players’ “Badass” ranks.
Anyone out there experience this exploit first-hand? Let us know in the comments.

That would explain what happened to my friend…We played a public game together then he later rage quit because of some asshole hogged all the good loot. We played earlyer today and his characters are either gone or level 1…but I didn’t get my stats whiped so I guess it only effects some people in the lobby or something which is quite odd.
