Borderlands 2 Sells Nearly 1.5 Million Copies in September
The release of Gearbox Software’s Borderlands 2 last month signaled the start of the Autumn 2012 blockbuster game season. The game scored pretty high with critics, and to my knowledge, I might be the only person among my game-playing friends who didn’t buy it yet (I’m on a budget!). And it would seem that Borderlands 2’s sales numbers back up the “blockbuster” label: according to a post on NeoGAF, which itself cites NPD’s numbers, the game sold a whopping 1.48 million units in North America in the month of September, an increase of 234 percent over its predecessor.
That’s pretty damn good.
The only game to beat it that month was Madden NFL 13, which, as we all know, is a powerhouse of video gaming that usually appeals to folks who don’t ordinarily play any other kinds of games.
Congratulations, Gearbox. You did it again. Now get me my Aliens Colonial Marines already, and we’re all squared up.
