Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto series is one of those franchises that can pretty much guarantee it’ll get monumental sales and some rave reviews. The development team takes their time and almost always ensures that what you’re playing will feel both familiar and refreshingly new at the same time. And over the past few months, gamers have been waiting for any updates they can get about the company’s newest installment in the series, Grand Theft Auto V. We’ve gotten a trailer and some screenshots, but nothing in the way of a release date. Not even a launch window.

A post on CVG today, however, reports that GameStop UK’s product listing for GTAV has been updated with a Friday, March 1, 2013 release date. In addition, the post also notes that Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company and the game’s publisher, has intimated that the game will launch before the end of their current fiscal year, which ends—you guessed it—in March 2013.

So does that mean that this is the release date? Don’t bet on it. The fact that the dates are still up on the page, imply that they’re more than likely simply placeholders. This kind of thing happens all the time, but it sure would be nice if we could get a dang release date already…

Why do people keep getting tricked by wildly inaccurate Gamestop release dates? They’re always placeholders simply put in the system so that in-store clerks can take reserves on the SKU.

That and the fact that these “release dates” have been reported on for centuries. Plus, January 3rd? Kinda launch date is that?

      Edit: March 3rd. Hurrrr.

March 1, my friend. Remember, they switch month and day over there in Europe. March 1 is IMPROBABLE…but PLAUSIBLE. January 3 is just foolishness.

March 1st is a Friday which makes this date very probable for a PAL release.
