Yesterday, 343 Industries and Microsoft announced that acclaimed director David Fincher—the guy behind Fight Club, The Social Network, and plenty of others—is the executive producer behind the forthcoming launch trailer for Halo 4. Not only that, but the visual effects lead from The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Tim Miller, is the director of the new two-minute trailer.

The video will first appear during the October 18 episode of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on NBC, and will be viewable on Halo Waypoint and YouTube immediately after it airs.

Here’s what Miller had to say about the project:

“I’m excited about the opportunity to direct the Halo 4 launch trailer in creative partnership with 343 Industries and David Fincher. Halo is one of the most iconic sci-fi universes, with a depth that allows for amazingly cinematic and emotionally riveting stories.  The chance to tell a story that explores never-before-seen facets of Master Chief’s journey is an honor. Our goal is to deliver a blockbuster, Hollywood-quality trailer that raises the bar for the award-winning legacy of live-action Halo storytelling and gets fans stoked for the return of Master Chief.”

So get ready to see some back story on the man himself. At this point, Halo has easily transcended the idea that it’s a mere game franchise. With Fincher and Miller working on the launch trailer, and with Machinima Prime’s live-action web series, don’t be surprised to see more movement on the movie front start to happen. Or a straight-up weekly TV show. Just guessing man, but once you get Hollywood A-list talent to work on a video based on your video game, you’ve undeniably hit the big-time.
