FIFA 13 Sells 4.5M in Five Days

After only a mere five days on the market, Electronic Arts boasted in a press release yesterday that FIFA 13 had sold 4.5 million copies, apparently setting a record to become the “biggest video game launch of 2012.”

Within the first 48 hours of its release, the game moved 1.23 million units in the UK alone, and the press release also reports that 800,000 fans were playing FIFA online simultaneously on September 30.

EA Sports’ vice president Andrew Wilson had this to say on the game’s achievement:

“FIFA Soccer 13 is a critical and commercial success unprecedented in sports entertainment. Every minute of every day millions of fans around the world are experiencing what the critics have already said—FIFA Soccer 13 is the biggest and best sports game we have ever created.”

So that’s pretty damn good.

Hooray FIFA!

Of course, no mention in the press release about the fact that several versions of FIFA 13 were merely dressed up copies of last year’s game…but hey, as long as it sells, amirite?
