A post on Destructoid this morning reports that federal criminal charges will not be filed against former 38 Studios head Curt Schilling. The FBI launched an investigation into Schilling due to the sudden collapse of his Rhode Island-based game studio, which defaulted on a $75 million loan from the state government to relocate there from Massachusetts in order to create jobs.

After reviewing 38 Studios’ finances, a spokesperson for U.S. Attorney Peter Neronha announced that they did not find cause to charge Schilling with bank fraud or for violations of federal laws. However, the state police department is continuing its investigation of Schilling. Considering the fact that it’s Rhode Island money that Schilling spent (and lost) in the pursuit of Kingdoms of Amalur and Project Copernicus, it wouldn’t be too surprising if the state police managed to find a way to charge him. Time will surely tell.
