Oculus Rift Virtual Reality Headset Available for Pre-Order

Though only two games have been announced as “in-development” for the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset, Hawken and Doom 3 BFG Edition, you’re more than welcome to pre-order your very own headset for your personal or software development needs.

The “Developer Kit”, as it’s being called, includes one of the new, completed headsets and access to the necessary software development kit (SDK) so you, a potential developer, can implement the hardware’s functionality into your own software or games.

Or you might just want to wear it to an upcoming Halloween party or something. The problem is, the only thing that’s scary is that $300 price tag. It gets even more frightening at $345 if you live outside of the U.S. (due to shipping and handling). The most frightening fact of all, however, is that the headset might not actually look as cool as this. If you don’t believe me, just glance at the picture above.

If you pre-order now, you can expect your headset by January. So… maybe you can wear it next year’s Halloween party, then.
