First Details of NSMB 2 DLC Unveiled

By Brian P Rubin | 28 September 2012 | 6 Comments

New Super Mario Bros. 2 for the 3DS handheld was the first game Nintendo offered as a digital download—the first of many, says the company. The game will also be the first to receive a paid DLC offering, the details of which were revealed last night during the Nintendo Direct web broadcast.

Joystiq has the translated-from-Japanese scoop, explaining that the DLC will come in three different downloadable nuggets. “Go! Go! As Gold Mario Pack” will offer up three courses that gamers play as, well, uh, Gold Mario, and can collect up to 30,000 coins. Also available will be “Challenge the Record A Pack” and “Survival Panic Pack,” which task players with taking on the game’s top scorers and to beat a set of super-difficult levels, respectively.

The post notes that all of this DLC is specific to the Coin Rush mode, which, personally, I’m not too interested in. Lawrence will probably yell at me about this, but I had a hard time giving a crap in Coin Rush…I much prefer the regular game, and I think it’d be awesome if I could pay a few bucks for a whole new world to explore instead of what we’ve heard about here. But that’s me. The post adds that the packs will cost 200 yen each, which is roughly $2.50 American. No word on release dates or pricing outside of Japan.

Well? What say you? I totally enjoyed New Super Mario Bros. 2…but this DLC doesn’t do much for me. Am I just a grump? Or would you also want a whole extra world to run through?

I’m with you, Brian. I would much prefer a new world to explore rather than these.

Someone, somewhere divided by 0 and didn’t unleash chaos. Kudos to you, mysterious stranger.

Going with your intuition, is probably a good way to go…

    P.S. I really love it when (0 + P) involved…
