TGS 2012: Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix Announced, Includes Stuff You Love
Kingdom Hearts is finally coming home to the PlayStation 3 – and no, not in the form of Kingdom Hearts 3 (that would make too many consumers squeal with joy). Square Enix has instead announced a new HD collection that bundles remastered versions of Kindom Hearts Final Mix, Kingdom Hearts – Re: Chain of Memories, and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. And as part of their continuing focus of naming their products as straightforwardly as possible, Square Enix has named this collection Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix.
Allow us to break this down for you. Final Mix was a Japanese-exclusive re-release of the first Kingdom Hearts (PS2), which added in content from the earlier-released North American version. Re: Chain of Memories (PS2) is a full remake of, well, Chain of Memories (GBA). Finally, there’s 358/2 Days, which aside from its silly title, was also exclusively a DS game. You, like us, are probably confused as to how Square intends to increase the visual fidelity of this game for the PS3 – well, they might not be. Rumored reports from Famitsu have indicated that they might only be re-releasing the game with remade cutscenes, not remade gameplay.
In addition to the news of Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix being announced, Square Enix also revealed that a browser-based, online card game themed after Kingdom Hearts is in the works – also according to that same Famitsu report.
We’ve got our one and only Billy “Shibbs” Shibley out in the Land of the Rising Sun right now, so we’ll be sure to spam his email with questions for him to prod Square Enix representatives with.
It’s a good thing we set him up with all those Japanese language lessons. I personally thought tap-dancing lessons would be more worth the money, but now that he’s in Japan, well it just makes more sense.
