TGS 2012: Inafune Offers More Yaiba Details
Last week, we had our first look at Keiji Inafune’s new jam, a zombie-ninja-mash-up game called Yaiba. We didn’t know much more than that—but the man behind Mega Man has offered up some more details at the Tokyo Game Show today. One of the bigger reveals: Yaiba’s full name is Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, meaning it’s a spin-off…meaning that I am not as interested as I was.
The details come our way from Joystiq, which reveals that Yaiba is the game’s lead character, a zombie-cyborg-ninja who’s on a revenge quest against Ninja Gaiden protagonist Ryu Hayabusa. No word on the release date or platforms, but the post reports that it’s in development for consoles…whatever that might mean.
Personally, after playing Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus on the Vita, I was way-turned-off by all things Hayabusa. The trailer we saw last week and the one just released at TGS look pretty cool…but now I’m more skeptical. I mean, it looks cool as hell, but the Ninja Gaiden games have a reputation for being difficult to the point of absurdity. And maybe that makes me non-hardcore, but wishing I were dead isn’t really my idea of a good time.
What do you think? I can’t help but admit that the gameplay—what little we can see in the trailer above—looks pretty sweet…
