Coming in hot next Wednesday is the first-ever expansion for Ubisoft’s free-to-play tactical shooter, Ghost Recon Online. Titled the ‘Arctic Pack’, this September 12-slated DLC brings with it new equipment, weapons and even a brand new map — the largest battlefield among any released so far for the game.

Under the name “Tomsk-9,” this new map is Conquest-focused and shoved far into the frigid arctic circle, also known as that really cold region that no one likes to visit — unless you’re a Ghost Recon soldier, apparently.

Battles will take place in and out of a snow-covered Russian nuclear reprocessing complex, as Joystiq points out. If you’ve been stacking up on in-game currency, you’ll be able to afford some of the new armor, weapon, and head variants that come in fancy new arctic-camouflage colors.

Be sure to jump on those variants fast though – they’ll only be available for two weeks after the update lands.

Also, “over 300 balance changes, improvements, and bug fixes” have been checked off the to-do list in this update as well.

However, I think Ubisoft sorely missed the mark when they left the all-too-crucial, newly-introduced battle penguins out of this update. Penguin skin combat helmets are the future of military warfare Ubi, so get with the program.

What do you mean battle penguins aren’t a thing? Google it, nerd.
