Madden NFL 13 Sells 1.65 Million in One Week
Last week, EA Sports was boasting that Madden NFL ’13 managed to sell 900,000 copies in its first 24 hours on the market. Today, they published a new press release to brag about some more records the latest installment in their NFL series has broken. In its first week of release, the game sold 1.65 million units, the franchise’s “best start ever on this console generation.” The game has seen an eight percent year-over-year increase in sell-through on HD platforms.
In addition, online play saw a 31 percent increase, with over 24 million online matches being played in the game’s first week.
“That’s the equivalent of a staggering 47,000 NFL regular seasons in just seven days, and, on Labor Day alone, an average of 3,000 Madden NFL ’13 games were started every minute.” That’s actually really impressive. And I really want a copy of this damn game.
Said EA Sports Executive Vice President Andrew Wilson:
“We’re thrilled to see the great momentum continuing on Madden NFL 13. The overwhelming feedback is that this is the best Madden NFL game in a generation. Fans are competing in record numbers, and we expect that type of engagement to only grow with the start of the NFL regular season last night, as fans connect with their favorite teams and players through our game.”
And let’s not forget, we gave this game a 9/10. And if we say it’s good, it must be good (what I am saying is that we are never, ever wrong).
