Best Selling Game of August: New Super Mario Bros. 2

With only a total of five days on the market, Nintendo’s 3DS-exclusive New Super Mario Bros. 2 has topped off as August’s top-selling game with over 240,000 copies bought. Shortly behind Mario and friends was another 3DS-exclusive, Kingdom Hearts 3D (Dream Drop Distance), with over 180,000 units picked up by gamers.

Hardware sales were also on the rise, with numbers indicating 36 percent increase over last month’s reports, likely thanks to the launch of the bigger and better Nintendo 3DS XL.

If you think the Mario branding was the only reason for the stellar sales of New Super Mario Bros. 2, think again – the game is actually pretty dang good.
