The next iteration in Blizzard’s hit strategy series, Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm, has entered into a phase of multiplayer beta, with pro gamers, shoutcasters, press, and Arcade contest winners currently putting the game through its paces.

Though closed off to the general public, there’s always the potential for Blizzard to begin inviting players into the closed beta via their Battlet.net accounts. That said, it wouldn’t hurt to go ahead and make sure you’re officially “opted in” for the beta on your profile.

Blizzard has mentioned, though, that the beta selection process is based on some “element of luck” in addition to “system specifications and other factors.”

“Beta testers are chosen according to their system specifications and other factors, including recent StarCraft II activity (and an element of luck), when selecting individuals during each round of invitations. Our goal is to have a wide variety of players and system types.”

However, there are other ways you can join in on all the fun:

“We’ll be providing beta entry giveaways through various promotions on our sites, as well as through fansites and community VIPs. We’ll have more information available on these promotions as they approach.”

And while you’re not technically required to have Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty attached to your account, Blizzard did state that your amount of playtime in the game might factor into your probability of getting in when they open the beta invite floodgates.

Shame since blizzard has broken my fanboyism with its release of the Waterdown WoW known as Diablo 3 that I see no point in continuing to support them. I hope HOS will be good but when we get down to it, there’s no substance, theres just the same old same old with the WoW gameplay and story set up tacked in the middle. If you compare WoW, to D3 and To the way Starcraft is shaping up, the stories will prove to be the same set up.

What happened to the gritty heart wrenching story the old blizzard had, now they’ve become the disney of this generation in every sense of the word and that wasn’t what blizzard was about. Also blizzards pushing of a authenticator as your only form of protection of your battle .net accounts is lazy security protocols and their ignoring of the community to those concerns is a little disturbing but I digress.

The point i’m making is that blizzard is a shell of what it used to be and that was because of their merger with Vivendi/activision and their creation of the ultimate money maker, WoW. We see the same thing with valve in the sense that when companies or people get too much money they seem to stop producing works of the heart and instead produce works of the dollar.
