PAX Prime 2012: “Fuse” is the New IP from Insomniac
Over the weekend, Insomniac’s CEO Ted Price announced his studio’s new IP: Fuse. A post on Joystiq speculates that Fuse is what the in-development project Overstrike has evolved into.
No other details about the game have been officially released, except that there’s a website right here, with a countdown clock that’s set to expire about a week from today. The Joystiq post, however, offers up some quotes from Price that certainly lends credence to the idea that Overstrike and Fuse are the same game.
Overstrike, a four-player co-op game announced at Electronic Arts’ 2011 E3 press conference, hasn’t had much in the way of updates in the year since its debut. When asked about that fact, Price responded thusly:
“I’m gonna point you to Fusegame.com…I’m being cagey here because I want to be consistent with how we’re answering these questions.”
A PR person stepped in to fill Price’s word-gap:
“We’re very deliberate in what we’re showing right now, and that’s why we’re just pointing people to the website and saying, ‘Hey, this is a process. We’re going to share more information with you, stay tuned.’”
The Joystiq post also points to a report in Game Informer that says, unequivocally, that Overstrike is now Fuse.
So there you go. It’s a new IP…but all signs are signaling that it’s not a BRAND NEW project. Still, it’s nice to know that stuff’s still happening, right?
