During last night’s Metal Gear 25th Anniversary celebration, Konami announced not only a new Metal Gear game and an official Metal Gear movie, but also an upcoming smartphone game that features what you’d expect in a Metal Gear game — you guessed it, card battles.

GREE COO Yoshikazu Tanaka officially unveiled the first trailer for the phone-exclusive Metal Gear Solid: Social Ops at the event last night, and wasn’t shy in showing off its Unity Engine-powered 3D graphics. As told by Andriasang, Social Ops will revisit stories previously told in past Metal Gear games, and will feature gameplay focused around a card battle system and development options for Mother Base à la MGS: Peace Walker for the PSP.

While the game will be available later this year worldwide, attendees of the upcoming Tokyo Game Show will have the opportunity to try their hand at the game on the show floor.

Get it, “try their hand?” It’s a card game reference!

If you’d like to see some screenshots of the game in action, go ahead and hit up Famitsu for the photographic scoop.
