Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes Announced
Hideo Kojima clearly knows what keeps his mansion stocked with hookers and blow, because he announced Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes at a 25th Anniversary event for the Metal Gear series early this morning. Almost all details including plot, release platforms, and release dates are not known at this point, but there are a few hints coming from those that attended the event.
First off, the game is running in the new FOX Engine, which apparently can crank out some bomb ass visuals.
I have to say, MG: Ground Zeroes looked AMAZING. Super happy to see something impressive coming out of Japan, and especially from Kojipro.

Additionally, the game will be open-world, with Snake doing Snake-like things.
Snake crawled @ avoiding searchlights, killed guard, rode jeep, called in heli for evac. Sounds like MG, but the scale & atmosphere… Wow.

That doesn’t touch on the big mystery — which Snake is it, and what time period will this game take place? Previously Kojima mentioned that he’d like to make a game revolving around Big Boss in World War II, and while it’s possible this is that game, you can see an eyepatch strap under the Sam Fisher-esque headgear that Snake is wearing in the promotional artwork. If it is an actual eyepatch, that means this game takes place after Metal Gear Solid 3.
Of course, Kojima has never needed actual reasons to design his characters however he wants. If he really wants to keep making the love children of Lee Van Cleef and Kurt Russel, he’ll trump up some kind of reason.
It’s also possible that this game will embrace the suggestion made by reader Corey Clarke — “Metal Gear Solid 5: Sunset Retirement Center.” Snake is now dealing with bouts of dementia and PTSD, and you must navigate the metaphorical battlefield of his mind while watching Jeopardy and waiting for your next medication.
At this point I’m more intellectually interested in how they’ll extend the absurdly complicated setting and story of Metal Gear than how the game will actually play — what are you guys curious about?

I want to know why they fired whoever came up with decent titles.. “Revengeance”? That isn’t even a word, it’s revenge or vengeance! “Ground Zeroes”? I suppose there could be an explanation for the plural, but it all sounds like a slide in quality back to the days of terrible Engrish translations that led to “all your base” etc.
It’s revenge with a vengeance, you obviously haven’t played any of Platinum’s other games.
Considering Vengeance is the plural for Revenge, doesn’t really make sense.
Vengeance is not the plural of revenge.
Your degree in English really shows. “Revengeance” is a real word in the Oxford Dictionary.
YAY! that means there might also be an MGO2! i hope it doesn’t take place after MGS3
on a side note, that doesn’t look like any of the snake’s (pause). Maybe a new snake clone? it doesn’t look like big boss at all.
I legitimately thought the picture was of Sam Fisher at first glance.
i think its big boss. notice the MSF (Militaires Sans Frontières) logo on his sleeve :0
If you look closely, there’s an American flag in the background. Looks like Big Boss is coming home.
I’ve never played Metal Gear, and I considered trying to start, but the story just makes me scratch my head and wonder if the writers weren’t playing mad lib.
What I want to know is where did you find the old EGM staff?
If anyone knows anything about guns, they might be able to pinpoint a time period based on the weapon in the pictures.
I sure as hell don’t know anything about them.
I see the eye patch strap and the MSF logo.
I’m thinking this might take place when Big Boss is playing mentor to Solid Snake, which might make the “Ground Zero(es)” thing make sense.
It’s definitely post WW2. I’m not an expert, but my guess would be an AR-15. I’m probably wrong, but that’s what it looks like to me.
Also I’m pretty sure that’s the stealth uniform you get near the end of MGS: peacewalker
It is, it’s an improved version of the soviet uniform the Boss used on MGS3.
sooooooo glad MSG is not a PS3 exclusive anymore, well exept MGS4 i think
I’m a big die hard fan of mgs…since beginning… ultimate moment was fighting mantis…lol remember jumping out my bed saying wtf…and reaching for diff controller and hittin tv…hahaha but snake needs to retire…l got love for em…and the game…but its time for him to sit on sidelines and let raiden take over…everynow and again he can pop up or assist raiden when in a bind…and even if they don’t switch it up ill still be there coping the game….ps3.
