PS3 Gamers Grill Bethesda Over Missing Skyrim DLC

After yesterday’s announcement that Skyrim would have a brand-new DLC pack available for Xbox 360 gamers on Tuesday, plenty of PlayStation 3 gamers got mad. Rightfully so, too—the first round of DLC for the game has been on other platforms for a while now, but the PS3 is bereft of any such updates, with no explanation as to why in sight.

So when Bethesda’s VP Pete Hines took to Twitter to talk about the new DLC—which is priced at a lowly 400 Microsoft Points, he revealed—plenty of PS3 gamers got on his case about the missing “Dawnguard” DLC, and the fact that PS3 gamers are now two expansions behind, instead of just one.

When asked about his response to the lack of PS3 DLC, Hines said:

Another fan told Hines he was upset, asking for the reason behind the delay. Said Hines:

Still not satisfied, another fan pulled the old “bad PR” card on Hines, saying that fans are owed a statement if for no other reason than to keep up appearances and to quell the anger:

Finally, one fan asked a relevant question—is the PS3 version of “Dawnguard” being delayed because of work being done on “Hearthfire”?

I’m sure PS3 owners are still unhappy about the situation—and I can’t blame them. However, I do think that we might want to keep some things in mind before we hate all over Bethesda. While, yes, it’s their DLC, and it seems as though PlayStation 3 owners are being left in the cold, it strikes me as odd that anyone would think Bethesda is doing this on purpose. The only reason I can think of for a move like that would be some kind of negotiating tactic against Sony…maybe for higher royalty rights or lowered fees for putting their content on the PlayStation Store or something.

More likely, I think, is that the PlayStation 3 is just a pain in the ass to get to work right. It’s no secret that Bethesda has had plenty of problems throughout Skyrim’s life this past year, and only recently have we stopped hearing about crazy game-altering glitches. My guess is that they don’t want to release something that’s the technological equivalent of being full of potato bugs and feces and whatnot. They want to make sure what they sell you is clean, functional, and wonderful. Because as pissed off as you are, no one loses more in this situation than Bethesda.

I’ll tell you the reason right now. Bethesda signed a contract with Microsoft, I’m assuming for funding, that entails all dlc be developed and released for Xbox before all other consoles. In the end, it all comes down to the money.

If you buy a PC you can get Dawnguard and a mod called build your own home that is the same thing as Hearthfire right now for free.

I get why PS3 owners are upset over the delay, but it is not surprising considering the 360, more often then not, gets content faster then the PS3.

Hey I’ve got an idea if your a ps3 owner that wants dawnguard. Just dont buy it because the reason Bethesda doesn’t care is they probably think this won’t affect their sales which is the only thing 99.999999999999% of companies care about. Now the only way you should buy it is if it’s either free or extrely discounted on ps3. Spread this message around so Bethesda knows we don’t just take any shit for bullshit.

Yes! Let’s hate on Bethesda, a BUSINESS wanting to make a PROFIT from their games
As the article stated, Bethesda is also losing out on this. If Dawnguard is bug-riddled and is released on PS3, the PS3 fanboy’s will pull the “bad port” card or something along those lines.

      • Posted by smr on 29 August 12 at 4:55pm

Yes! Let’s sympathize with companies, because clearly they don’t have divisions to worry about such things as making profits! Let’s all be good little consumers and do that job for them; for FREE!

    • Posted by lurble on 30 August 12 at 3:56am

That doesn’t make any sense. If all they want is profits, and you don’t buy their product, that’s not exactly going to encourage them to make more products for you to not buy. If anything, all that would do is cause them to move away from the PS3 entirely.

Look it’s not because Bethesda thinks your insignificant its that they are like the news said they are probly refining it I don’t want to flame war but ps3 game updates do take as long (or close to it) as a Xbox system update so their are extra 1′s and 0′s they need to add to make sure you dont have vampires turn into a swarm of bats and fly through a mountain so stop being ignorent it will come for you to

  7. Posted by Renlio on 29 August 12 at 10:45am

Bethesda has a lot of work at hand developing Skyrim, so I suggest more patience to PS3 users. I’m sure they are working on it now that they have the PS3 community putting some pressure.

  8. Posted by Arthur Daniyelyan on 29 August 12 at 11:36am

You Ps3 fanboys are so stupid. They are delaying the content because it’s bugged the fuck out on your version. They’re fixing and refining it. Regardless you fanboys would still bitch, if they release the Dlc and there is a game breaking bug, you would whine that Bethesda didn’t take their time to improve it.

  9. Posted by soulprovider on 29 August 12 at 11:57am

Therre is no reason that the DLC should be delayed for the PS3 if they already have it ready for PC. There is more at work behind the scenes than we know Personally I beleive it to be a contract issue since microsoft has been know to pull stuff like this, at this point though wouldn’t be surprised if they lose sales because of this. Look at what happened to max payne three, they released the game for Xbox before PC and the PC sales suffered heavily from it since most bought it for the xbox, the community for the PC was minute at best because of this.

  10. Posted by Persio on 29 August 12 at 2:41pm

I don’t think that Bethesda is delaying the PS3 dlc on purpose or for money. It’s likely because Skyrim just doesn’t run well on the PS3 and adding Dawnguard might cause some more problems. Wasn’t the dlc for Fallout 3 also delayed for PS3 while PC and Xbox got it on time? And people accused Bethesda of a money deal with Microsoft back then as well.

Its kinda sad to see that gamers never realize that the gaming industry is a BUSINESS. People work hard long nights, exhausting their minds to create creative working, and functional products so that consumers will be happy with what they buy. If they feel like they should wait till the product is working before they send it out, or make contract deals with console companies to make a better profit, why not, they are trying to get the money that they feel they deserve after long hours of sacrifice and perseverance to get the job done. The gaming industry isn’t a bunch of humble developers and publishers, who is trying to satisfy everyone and leave themselves with no money in return. I sure neither of you would turn down more money on your pay check, release a shitty DLC that has tons of bugs just because consumers are angry, nor make a crappy negotiation with a company and get little to no money in return, if you were in their shoes.

I’m sorry but lol the ultimate irony, Doominator1337 spelled the word ignorant wrong. That’s hilarious.

I don’t mind if the final product takes like another month or so to release because god knows Skyrim (and Fallout New Vegas) are the buggiest things that take a while to patch due to the nature of the system. But if it means that Heartfire (and maybe another DLC) gets annouced before Dawnguard gets released on Ps3 I think people have the right to get mad. I understand they are a business and are busy, but they’ve gotta get their stuff right sometimes, same things happened with New Vegas.

First of all I’m a HUGE PS3 fan, but when it came to Skyrim, I guess you could say I was lucky to get it on the PC. I was really happy with it and seeing the bugs on the PS3 it really hurt me since I had Oblivion on that console and so I honestly understand the reason they would be pissed (just like what Cheeto McFrito said). My only concern is, sure I can get mods that do that, but I would honestly LOVE to see Heartfire on the PC.

Lmao if you have a gaming PC why even THINK of any buying any multiplatform games on consoles? ESPECIALLY for games like Skyrim…

  16. Posted by powerdive54 on 30 August 12 at 9:32am

what if Bethesda waits until hearthfire is released on PC and then they release both DLC in one package

  17. Posted by duttdits on 31 August 12 at 9:31am

I don’t really care the secret reasoning behind all this. What really angers me is they are telling us NOTHING. We have no clue what is going on with their development issues that they say they are having. Most of us may no understand the technical details of it all, but that doesn’t mean we don’t want to hear the details anyway. I would like to hear from bethesda on what the claimed bugs actually are. Are the bugs just like when skyrim first released? Are the NPCs swimming on land? Who knows? Why does nobody know? Because they aren’t telling us for no reason and when anybody ask about it they give some answer that looks like it was written by a defensive lawyer that doesn’t even address the question asked. If they told me what sort of bugs were holding them up I’d be happy with that.

    • Posted by David D. Davidson on 31 August 12 at 3:40pm

The PS3 is 256MB CPU and 256MB GPU. The 360 has 512MB that can be distributed as needed between the CPU and GPU. Which means if it’s CPU intensive, the 360 can use more of the RAM for the CPU. If it’s GPU intensive, the 360 can use more RAM for the GPU instead. If the game needs 300MB of RAM for anything, the PS3 will have issues because it just doesn’t have that much RAM for the CPU or GPU, so it’s just stuck. The PS3 is a more powerful system, it’s just not as smart of a system.

      That enough details for you?

      • Posted by duttdits on 01 September 12 at 8:45am

THANK YOU! Why the heck couldn’t bethesda just say that? As I said. I may not understand the technical details fully, but I now understand enough that I no longer have any anger towards bethesda for their delays. Now I can’t be sure that is the actual problem they are having, but based on their vague replys on the issue it fits. Somebody needs to fire Pete Hines and hire you in his place. No joke. Telling this to everyone on twitter will shut down most of the haters. But I am aware that would be like slandering sony’s system and bethesda will not get much love from sony ever again if they told everyone ps3 just can’t handle what 360 can. So that explains the lack of answers. So now my anger towards bethesda is laid to rest and for this I thank you. I hope everybody finds our posts and reads it. And even if your wrong we will likely never know the real answer so I will accept your explanation as the truth till I hear something more believable, and I don’t expect to. And once again…thank you.

Its not necessarily a flame war its not necessarily us being little bitchy either. They just fucked up and they have done it for years they had similar issues going back to fallout 3 and they just never bothered to polish it on the ps3 and they never bothered to learn from there mistakes they just said hey look we fixed it kind eh eh wanna play? sure you do! its not skull fucking you after 7 hours,. There GOTY of fallout 3 was just disgusting and they never patched it so that any of dlc wouldn’t just randomly crash the ps3 or lag or overheat your ps3 they just gave up and said hey were gonna add it to a disk that allows you to dl the shitty ones we put online… Weare a litte mad that there awful with pr but we are truely mad cause there lazy shit heads and they have done it for years. I myself got it on ps3 ( even though i wanted it on xbox for nostalgia sakes) cause my xbox died a month before and it was buy skyrim or wait a month or two till i could buy xbox then another 2 weeks and buy skyrim. Honestly bethesda ports to much and the fact other devs in there own org can program on a ps3 says something about there team. I will however buy there stuff in the future jsut not on a ps3 or a xbox i will buy it on pc steam sale. But i will never buy that garbage of a mmo.

Just a little heads up, Bethesda aren’t making the Elder Scrolls Online, Zenimax Online are. ZeniMax Media is the company that owns Bethesda and Zenimax Online and they were the ones that decided to make the MMO. Don’t get angry at Bethesda over the MMO as they aren’t the ones who are even creating it. Also, don’t get angry if a game doesn’t play on your consoles, they are outdated and the games companies are struggling to make innovative games on dated hardware. Sony and Microsoft have milked current generation consoles for too long. If you want good games and playing on a game pad, there are a lot of companies that do create game pads for pc. Sure a pc is more expensive, but they do last a long time and you can upgrade parts when needed.

Honestly all that. Bullshit about blaming the ps3 is plain excuses. To say its hard to get it right on ps3 bcuz of the ps3 n people except it is a load of bs. The ps3 has been around for 5+ years and other companies like konami, naughty dog, capcom have had no issues like these… its all from bethesda being a bunch of lazy ass X-box fanboys especially Pete Hines, he openly displayed his lack of care for the ps3 community when the Dawnguard DLC first came out.. they’ve been making multi platform games for years yet they fail constantly at getting the shit right.. trying to copy and paste the game from one system to a completely different system makes them a buch of idiots… and to all the x-box fanboys who try to justify why they have a system by bashing the one they couldn’t afford…. fuck off! If I were you id be enjoying hearthfire not trying to enjoy the bs company’s put off on sony. Most ps3 owners are patient as long as we have some kind of idea of what’s going on, are treated with respect, and aren’t fed obvious bull.. and once we haveour content u won’t catch us on websites like these we’re off into our ps3′s… and our lives…. X-box ps3 haters… if u love ur system so much why aren’t u playing it?? In conclusion bethesda needs to stop blaming ps3 hardware because of THEIR incompetence, they need to be working around the clock because whatever “team” is working Dawnguard ps3 aren’t doing well enough alone.. and everyone out there needs to stop believing and making excuses for them, you’re consumers not employees you have the right to say when you are not satisfied with what you paid for and are willing to pay for… fuck you bein nice for fuck these guys you don’t owe them anything! They owe u trade for payment.. they’re big boys no one needs to hold their fucking hands on this type of stuff… get your shit together Bethesda because you’re missing A LOT of money

Look the longer they take to release any DLC 4 skyrim on PS3 the angrier I get. If it’s not out by the end of this month i will boycott this DLC and most likely all future games BS makes. This franchise war only does one thing for the company: ignite fan anger and divide gamers into corporate lapdogs. When they release any game now it should be standard for all platforms. We need new legislation for this kind of crap. It’s a headgame and I the gamer is tossed around like a dollar hooker in a tijuana donkey bar. Seriously if its not out by the end of sept. I will get any and all my fellow ps3 ppl to boycott their games. Period. If u want to make a game exclusive for one platform, fine. Just dont tease us with half-assed versions of games that we paid the same price for as other platforms did. It should be ILLEGAL!!!!

  21. Posted by AzzGuard on 09 September 12 at 1:24am

Doesn’t that make sense? We paid same price for this game (ps3 or PC) as xbox did yet their version is both cleaner and gets EXCLUSIVE rights to DLC…..Not cool. Worse than that tho its the bugs. THEY HAVE NO RIGHT TO SELL AN INFERIOR PRODUCT AT THE SAME PRICE!!!

  22. Posted by Gamerforever on 03 October 12 at 2:20pm

I have my collection from Bethesda’s games, all for PS3, except Morrowind (PC): I bought Skyrim very excited but, again, as Fallout 3 goty edition PS3 version, it was too bugged, and later the dlc only xbugs360 was worst. Because Bethesda only repairs on xbugs gamers with no consideration to Playstation users. For that reason, I wont buy another game from Bethesda, but I’ll play it anyway. For example Dishonored, I know Bethesda is not the developer but gives the money to Arkane y the product from the selling is for Bethesda.
