Ascend: New Gods is Another Free-To-Play Game Coming to XBLA
Last week, we informed you that Happy Wars, a game from Toylogic and Microsoft, would be the fist-ever free-to-play game to come to Xbox Live Arcade. Now, a second game has surfaced (but was announced prior), titled Ascend: New Gods, which will also be free-to-play when it launches “in several months” on Xbox Live.
As with Happy Wars, Ascend: New Gods will require each player to maintain an Xbox Live Gold subscription, “as many of the games planned will be multiplayer games by nature (an Xbox Live Gold subscription is required for multiplayer gaming),” Microsoft says.
“The games that use the free-to-play mechanic will leverage the Microsoft Points system.”
What does this mean? As nearly everyone predicted, it simply means micro transactions, and plenty of them. While we’re not entirely sure of the nature of these micro transactions, one would be safe to assume that they’ll focus on aesthetic, character customization, and equipment.
So open thy wallet dearest consumer, open it wide…for a free game.
