Yesterday, Xbox Live’s own Larry “Major Nelson” Herb announced a price drop for their motion control Xbox add-on, the Kinect. Whereas the Kinect was previously held at a $150 price tag since its launch in 2010, it has been permanently reduced to $109.99 in the United States.

Nelson also mentioned that there is a price reduction planned for the rest of North America, Latin America and Asia Pacific regions. Also, starting on October 4, the Kinect will receive a similar price slash in the lands down under: Australia and New Zealand.

No word yet on how much the price drops will differ from country to country, but Nelson specifically points out that “The final retail price will vary in each region based on the currency and other variables” and that there are “no price drop plans for EMEA and Japan.”

Our condolences, European and Japanese friends.

That’s still too much for that something that serves no purpose other than a mic now…
