Gamescom 2012: Metal Gear Rising Release Date & Blood-Soaked Trailer

By Brian P Rubin | 15 August 2012 | 3 Comments

Yesterday, Konami premiered a brand-new, blood-spattering trailer for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, the new “cut-anything” action game starring nobody’s favorite character, Raiden. The trailer features a release date at the end that targets the game for February 21, 2013 (presumably the European release date, since this thing was shown at Gamescom), with February 22 as the UK and Ireland release date. As for North America, since most of our games are released on Tuesday, expect it on February 19 or February 26.

(UPDATE!)

(A Konami press release reveals a North American release date of February 19. Detective skills validated!)

As for the content of the trailer—looks pretty good! I’m pleasantly surprised by the fact that it looks pretty fun to play, and that it isn’t the hot mess it was made out to be by Konami when they explained how crappy the game was turning out prior to it being turned over to Platinum for development. While it seems a bit heavy handed in terms of talking about the “military economy” and all that, it still looks like it’ll be a slashy good time.

What do you think?

“When mildly generic game play, bland set design, laughably bad voice acting, unskippable cut scenes and bizarrely atrocious (standard sub-standard) sci-fi ‘writing’ make you wonder Why Am I Playing This Game?” – Henry Swanson feels all _WRONGGG!!_ #forcedmemes

Animation and sound effects, put you there. Sounds like the story line will be exciting to. Annotations, commentary and comments, you know, will be absolutely awesome…
