Gamescom 2012: Capcom Announces New IP, Remember Me
It’s always really exciting when a major game publisher announces a new IP. More often than not, those games can be counted on for pretty solid quality (since they’re coming from a big company with lots of cash) and will probably, hopefully offer some new and innovative gameplay elements, since, you know, they’re new.
Today at Gamescom, Capcom announced a brand new game called Remember Me, which our own Justin Fassino, who’s at the conference right now, described to us as “Mirror’s Edge meets Deus Ex.” As you can see from the trailer, he doesn’t seem too far off the mark at all. Justin also told us that the game takes place in Paris, 2084, and is being developed by a brand new studio called Dontnod Entertainment. The studio’s made up of folks who’ve worked on games like Heavy Rain, Rainbow Six, and Burnout, and that the combat reminded him of Batman: Arkham City. Considering that there are few games in recent memory to nail combat as well as that franchise, that’s high praise, indeed.
Here are some more details from Justin:
“The premise of the game’s story revolves around the ability to experience other people’s memories by digitizing them and then sharing them over brain implant networks, so you can live other people’s experiences.
The main character is named Nilin; she’s uniquely able to rearrange people’s memories by ‘remixing’ them and they showed us a clip where she had to kill a police officer by going into his head, watching his memory, and then changing small details so he remembered the experience differently, and then committed suicide. It’s pretty cool, very Heavy Rain-ish.”
Honestly? That sounds really, really cool. In addition, the trailer above makes it pretty clear that there are going to be some acrobatic, free-running-type situations going on, and the aesthetic of the game world looks really cinematic, and very, very cool. This could easily be the trailer for a movie…and a movie that looks worth watching, I should mention.
The game’s scheduled for a May 2013 release. Between this, Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs, and Bethesda’s Dishonored, I’m feeling really good about all the awesome new, big budget IPs that are coming to gamers in the next few months. Exciting, no?

Not going to lie, looks pretty good so far.
Looks assasins creed from the future!
Total Recall the video game…. Gonna have to see more of this one first….
I don’t know why but I have absolutely zero interest in this game, despite the fact that Deus Ex 1 is one of my favorite games ever. Maybe its the dubstep and QTEs or maybe it’s the fact that the game is guarenteed to be bogged down with day 1 DLC, but I just can’t muster up any excitement for this one whatsoever.
great description, sounds correct haha, mirrors edge + deus ex + batman: ac combat.
Aw that guy killing himself made me really sad…..
