In the wake of Amazon Canada releasing box art images of Ubisoft’s upcoming Wii U games, Nintendo has stepped up to the microphone to offer its own statement on the design they’re going with for the new console’s games (which I kinda dig, by the way).

Here’s the word as given to Nintendo World Report:

“Nintendo has finalized the design of the Wii U game box art, and many of our publishing partners have already incorporated it into their own game packaging. We are seeing those game packages online as retailers are starting to showcase their games. For details about a specific game’s artwork, please contact the game’s publisher. Nintendo-published game boxes will appear shortly with placeholder logos, and then ultimately with the final artwork for each game.”

INSIGHTFUL. ENLIGHTENING. NOT REALLY.

But, yeah, this is what the box art looks like. I think it’s  pretty cool looking. Looks like they’re going with the light-blue of the logo at the top for the actual plastic of the case, rather than continuing with the white color of the Wii’s gams. Either way, it’s got to be loads better than the dumb NEON GREEN case of the Xbox 360’s games.

What say you?

I like what they’re going for, it’s just the light blue looks and feels to “Kid friendly”, maybe if the case was black like the Gamecube it wouldn’t look so Sesame Street.
