Crytek, the studio behind the Crysis franchise and the soon-to-come-to-the-US free-to-play shooter Warface, has announced the opening of Crytek Shanghai in…well, Shanghai, China.

The Chinese office of Crytek will be responsible for the “regional operation” of Warface, particularly meaning keeping the game running in China, as well as supporting their proprietary CryEngine technology over in Asia.

“We see a lot of potential in the Chinese market, and have learned a lot from the close relationship with our eight existing Chinese Licensees, whose backgrounds range from game development to architecture visualization, and interactive exhibition to serious simulation,” mentioned Crytek managing director Avni Yerli in a press release.

With Crytek wanting to move its entire company towards free-to-play only titles, there’s certainly no better place than China to set up a new studio branch.

Why? Well, China has a lot of free-to-play gamers. Yeah, it’s pretty much that simple.
