Rumor: New Screenshot for Prince of Persia Reboot Leaked

A sly user on the Ubisoft forums recently uncovered and posted what he believes is a “leaked screenshot” of the newest Prince of Persia game. The filename of the image is “POP_ZERO_2”, a title used in the past by the studios working on the Prince of Persia games.

“Prince of Persia Zero”, in fact, was used not only internally as a name for a franchise reboot, but very specifically by former art director on the project Jonathan Jacques-Belletete , who used the codename during an interview with CVG – the same interview where he detailed why the project was scrapped.

As this filename is followed by a “2”, we’re led to believe that this is the second shot at a franchise reboot, or possibly a spinoff for the Prince. Seeing as how the above screenshot looks a bit like Egypt (as cleverly pointed out by Joystiq), or some other nation apparently set to host a revolution,  it’s certainly quite a direction for the series to spinoff to, if of course, the screenshot is legitimate.

It’s settled then — the new game shall be called The Prince of Egypt. Wait, that was already a thing wasn’t it?

Well, crap.

Is that big guy really the protagonist? I mean, PoP is about acrobatic stunts and pulling off crazy wall climbing. Watching this guy do any of that would be like watching a tank going toe-to-toe with a bunch of race cars. Am I just being skeptical here?

Now it’s all about punchin’ big dudes in the FACE — my guess at least.
